The University of Rhode Island celebrated more than 3,500 of its newest alumni during the University's 2025 Commencement. Nearly 3,600 undergraduate degrees and 600 graduate degrees were conveyed to students during the ceremonies which took place May 16-18, 2025.

The University of Rhode Island celebrated more than 4,000 of its newest alumni during the University's 136th Commencement. Close to 3,600 undergraduate degrees and more than 800 graduate degrees were conveyed to students during the ceremonies which took place May 20-22, 2022.

Each year, the University of Rhode Island presents Academic Excellence Awards to graduating seniors for their exceptional academic performance. Departmental faculty and deans select students for these prestigious awards based on grade point average and other indicators of excellence, such as the completion of an honors project, a research presentation, community service, and extraordinary professional and civic promise. Each recipient receives a certificate of student excellence and a University of Rhode Island medallion.

Each year, the University of Rhode Island honors graduating seniors for their superior academic achievement with a University Academic Excellence Award. Their selection is based on grade point average, as well as other criteria determined by their individual academic departments. For example, criteria might include an honors project, a research presentation, or a student's professional promise. Each recipient receives a certificate of student excellence and a University of Rhode Island medallion.
