Orrett Douglas-Prawl of Stamford honored at URI's 18th annual Black Scholar Awards

Ten graduating University of Rhode Island seniors were honored for their academic excellence and achievements during the 18th annual Black Scholar Awards ceremony this spring.

Orrett Douglas-Prawl from Stamford, Conn., who is studying computer engineering, received the Saint Elmo Brady Award for Outstanding Achievement in Science. The Brady Award is presented to a senior with high achievements in sciences among Black students.

Donald Cunnigen, professor of sociology and anthropology at URI and a member of the URI Black Faculty Association, established the awards program in 1998 to recognize and honor outstanding African-American seniors.
