Ian Calise of East Providence receives fellowship for studying foreign language

University of Rhode Island student Ian Calise of East Providence, R.I., recently received the Beatrice S. Demers fellowship from the Rhode Island Foundation to study a foreign language overseas. Calise will study German at Technische Universitat Braunschweig in Braunschweig, Germany.

The Beatrice S. Demers Fund provides fellowships to Rhode Island residents and anyone who is a student at a Rhode Island college or university studying a foreign language. Fellowships cover the cost of tuition, fees, travel, housing and living expenses. The fund was established by the late Demers, who was a URI professor of foreign languages for more than 30 years.
